The Chronological Triptych

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

Triptych is defined as a set of three associated artistic, literary, or musical works intended to be appreciated together.

Isolation gave me the perfect time to reflect on myself, as I could not carry on with my intended course of shooting for my project.

Like many I struggled as a result of lockdown a big toll was taken on my mental health. I found because I had no schedule and nowhere to go I would do nothing. I like many was unable to see family, friends and my partner. Not being able to see my partner hurt me the most, not only did I miss the human connection but I'd completely lost faith in my project. I'd lie in bed, not eat, not drink water, just generally mentally low which impacted my physical health too. I decided to try to document this part of my life in this mini project whilst I could not continue on with my final project.

I thought I would try to convey how I felt through my appearance and body language. I began photographing myself with no makeup and plain clothing (as not to take away from the important aspects of the image). I set it up in chronological order of my negative head space to my more positive space outside of lockdown.

It was here that I reflected on my last submission for 301, where I experimented shooting my partner Lee. I tried to capture this in the images I had taken of myself. I had also reflected and thought just the makeup was impactful enough and to show less of my body as it seemed to be more distracting than anything.

The single hand reaching out was a representation to the missing I felt for my partner, the loneliness of my headspace and the urge to hold onto him.

These are some of the original images I had taken for my last submission working with Lee.
