Book making process

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

Materials used:

Bradel

Needle and thread

Spray Adhesive

Felt

Card

Faux leather

Scalpel

Stitching:

I started by poking evenly spread holes throughout the centre lining of my booklet, Using the saddle stitch technique I pulled the string through my book and secured the stitch with a knot. I then pulled the knot through to the back of the book and tied another knot for added security.

Hard cover:

I measured out the card and the distance I needed for the spine. I then cut out a small strip of felt and used double sided tape to secure it to the edges of the card. I made sure to add pressure to help with the sticking process.

Leather cover:

I then measured and cut my piece of faux leather, I then placed the card on top of the leather to ensure I had the correct sized piece. I cut the corners of the leather so I could make a perfect fold. I used the spray adhesive on the inner side of the leather and wrapped the leather around my book. I added the previously sewn pages to the card with spray adhesive.

Using other books I weighed down the book to keep it intact whilst it was drying.
