My refined idea for the weird and wonderful brief was inspired by the work of tom hunter, and also my own research into the theme of horror. My initial idea was to create a series of cinematic type images influenced by the work of Stephen King and produced in a similar manner to gregory crewdson and maybe a moving image piece like the ones in Alex Prager’s work. It was however in a small narrative brief that I had been reminded of the work of Tom Hunter and his recreations of old vermeer paintings. I felt i wanted to do a similar thing but still using my horror aesthetic, connecting still with the theme ‘weird and wonderful’. The oxford dictionary defines a mask as, “A covering for all or part of the face, worn as a disguise, or to amuse or frighten others. I decided that with the use of my animal masks that i would create new versions of old paintings, adding a more sinister feel.
